SECOND MAN ARRESTED IN TUESDAY’S JERSEY CITY HOMICIDE

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

Dashawn Mixson, wanted in connection with the murder of DaJour Riley, has been arrested. Mixson, age 20, of Jersey City, turned himself in late this afternoon to detectives from the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit. He was arrested without incident.

Mixson has been charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S. 2C:11-3, a first-degree crime; Conspiracy To Commit Murder in violation of N.J.S. 2C: 5-2 and N.J.S. 2C: 11-3, a first-degree crime; Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-4, a second degree crime; and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-5, a second degree crime.

Mixson is the second man arrested in connection with Riley’s murder. Earlier this week, Vernell Mohammed, age 19, of Jersey City was arrested and charged with Riley’s murder, as well as conspiracy to commit murder and several gun violations.

On March 28, 2017, at approximately 11:45 a.m., Jersey City Police Officers responded to the area of Garfield Avenue and Union Street in Jersey City on a report of shots fired. Officers then responded to Jersey City Medical Center after being notified of the arrival of a gunshot victim.

The victim, Riley, age 19, of Jersey City, was shot multiple times inside a vehicle at the intersection of Garfield Avenue and Union Street. He was transported privately to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 2:30 p.m.

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit continues to actively investigate the case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
